The Ephwomen harriers kicked off the season with a lighthearted coed relay meet against conference foe Middlebury. Donning wacky outfits ranging from a bride and groom to a cross-dressing duo, the two teams brought creative competition to the Ephs’ home course.
Given the fun-loving nature of the event, the dual meet was called as a tie. Two senior-sophomore pairings finished second and third overall for the Ephs; cruising in first for the Ephs and second overall was the duo of Bret Scofield ’10 and Thomas Bliska ’12. Third place went to the team of Nora Mitchell ’10 and Anthony Raduazo ’12. The Ephs’ overall performance showed exciting prospects for the season.
Co-captains Jessica Clarke ’10, Jane Manfred ’10 and Bret Scofield ’10 all agree that the team’s performance, though not officially scored, bodes well for upcoming races. Manfred said, “It definitely showed that people are in great shape from the summer.” Describing the team dynamic, she added, “There was tons of spirit!”
The Ephs will bring their team spirit to Middlebury next weekend, when they take on the Panthersand other teams in the Middlebury Invitational.
