Williamstown, MA—At the ECAC Championships, hosted by Williams College at their Mt. Greylock Regional High School home course, the Middlebury Panthers emerged victorious for the second time in as many weeks. Last week the Panthers took first at the NESCAC Championships at Wickham Park in Manchester, CT. This week it was the “second 7”'s turn to represent Middlebury as they led the Panthers to victory with a team score of 37 points. For the second consecutive week the Ephs of Williams College were Middlebury's closest competitor. The Ephs backed up their second place finish at NESCAC's with another at ECAC's; their team score of 50 points was just behind Middlebury but well ahead of third place Amherst, who scored 105 points. Finishing in 4th and 5th were Vassar (133 points) and Coast Guard (177).
Middlebury had two finishers in the top five with Sarah Lange and Stephanie Moroney of Middlebury finishing 2nd and 3rd in 22:55 and 23:15, respectively. Ariel Williams '10 of Williams finished 4th (23:23). But it was Johanna Spangler of Vassar College who was to be top finisher on this day. Her time of 22:51 bettered second place Sarah Lange by four seconds. Ivette Meria of St. Vincent's finished 5th behind Moroney and Williams in 23:30.
