Ephs take 4th place at Plansky Invitational

The crisp fall weather, with a bright sun and the beautiful
colors of the mountains surrounding, made for a perfect day of
Cross Country running at the Plansky Invitational. Many alumni
trekked back to campus for the weekend, most of whom broke out
their racing shoes and hopped in one of the three races (5k open,
6k women’s, and 8k men’s). The majority of the Varsity
runners took the day off from racing, as they prepare for
consecutive races on the next few weekends.
Despite the absence of many runners, the Ephs still managed a
4th place finish in the Women’s 6k run. The women from MIT
took home the title today, followed by the College of New Jersey
and rival, Tufts University. Freshman Mary Brunelli started hard
off the line and held her pace steady for the entire race, crossing
the line first for the Ephs and 3rd overall in a time of 22:52.
Senior Mary Feeley had a great day, finishing exactly a minute
behind Brunelli. Senior, captain Beth Links and Senior Kristen
Emhoff raced well coming in 3rd and 4th for the team.
The Williams Harriers pranced to victory in the 5k race, finishing
with an impressive score of 22 points (the lowest possible is 15).
Junior Leah Katzelnick looked strong, leading the way in 20:33,
running with the boys and took 1st place overall. First-year
Elleree Erdos followed in 20:51, 3rd overall, with Heather Bemis on
her tail in 20:53.
The atmosphere was great, with fans, young and old, cheering
enthusiastically, and the positive energy combined with great
racing made for a stellar meet. The Ephs look forward to the
traditional Little Three Meet with Amherst and Wesleyan, which will
take place next Saturday, October 25th, also at home!
