NEW GLOUCESTER, ME -- Williams shared the title of NESCAC Champions with Middlebury today at the conference championships, hosted by Bates College. The Ephs competed on the 6 kilometer course at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, ME.

Both the Ephs and Panthers placed their top five runners in the top fifteen over all and both scored 48 points to tie for first, typically a rare event in cross country. Colby and Tufts followed to take 3rd and 4th, scoring more than twice as many points Williams and Middlebury.

The Ephs displayed awesome team work, with an incredible spread (the difference between the first and 5th runner on a team) of only 17 seconds! This is really almost unheard of, and it signifies the amazing ability of the Ephs to work together. The closely packed Williams runners were led by ever consistent senior captain, Lauren Philbrook, who sneaked into the top 5, running a solid time of 22:30. Three seconds later, freshman stand out, Mary Brunelli, crossed the line. She has been battling an injury, so this finish is even more impressive.

On Brunelli's shoulder was Junior Bret Scofield (22:34). Sophomore Meghan Shea followed closely in 22:38, and Senior Gillian Tedeschi rounded out the top 5 in 22:47.Elise Tropiano from Amherst captured the individual title, the only NESCAC runner to break 22 minutes.

On Thursday October 30th, a crew of Ephs headed down to Wesleyan University to run in the NESCAC open race. Freshman Elleree Erdos captured her first collegiate win, cruising over the 6k course with no competition, finishing in 24:18. Junoir soccer convert, Jess Ray, crossed the line next in 24:48. Jane Manfred, Ryan Jacoby, and Amdanda Huey finished 5th, 10th and 12th respectively.

Coach Pete Farwell will run his "second-seven" runners next weekend at the ECAC Championships
at Colt State Park, in Bristol RI next Saturday, November 8th. This will give the Varsity runners a week to rest their legs before the NCAA Regional Championship on November 15th.
