HOBOKEN, NJ – The Williams College volleyball team (3-2)
suffered a 3-1 (24-26, 19-25, 25-21, 19-25) loss to Eastern
University in the first day of the Ducks Classic hosted by Stevens
Tech. The Ephs faced stiff competition from the Eagles, who are
ranked #21 nationally.
Despite the absence of starting player Kate Anderson, the
Eph’s came out strong in the beginning of the match.
Eastern’s tough offense was well matched by the Williams
defense. The Ephs proved to be a viable competitor to the highly
ranked Eagles. Senior Melissa Pun led the team tonight, posting 11
kills and 19 digs from the back row. From the front row, senior
Chelsea Kubal and junior Nicole Ballon-Landa both had 11 kills and
junior setter Emily Avis had 43 assists.
“I was really proud of our team and how everyone really
stepped up their game tonight to help make us a better team.
Eastern is ranked #21 in the country, and we played with them point
for point. It was a battle and it’s tough to come out on the
losing end, but we saw a lot of positive things from our team
tonight,” said head coach Christi Kelsey.
Tomorrow in day two of competition, the Ephs face tournament host
Stevens at 10am and later Cortland at 1 o'clock.
