Ephs End Brandeis Invitational With a Split

WALTHAM, MA- The Williams College volleyball team (4-4) went 1-1 on the second and final day of the Brandeis Invitational. The Ephs began the day with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-23, 25-19) win over Babson and finished with a hard-fought 0-3 loss to Tufts (25-22, 25-11, 28-26).
Leading the Ephs in the first match were sophomores Emily Avis (31 assists), Kate Anderson (9 kills), Nicole Ballon-Landa (6 kills, 3 blocks), and junior Whitney Hitchcock (4 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces). Senior Riki McDermott, returning to the court after a minor sprain, posted 8 digs, 6 kills, and 5 blocks.
Against Tufts, juniors Hitchcock (6 kills), Melissa Pun (9 digs, 5 kills), and Chelsea Kubal (11 digs) pushed the Ephs to build much needed momentum in the third game. Although a valiant effort, the team was unable to come away with a win.
Ballon-Landa, (Sophomore MB, La Jolla, Calif.) was named to the all-tournament team.
The Ephs now look to an away game against Union College on September 16 at 7PM.
