Ephs 5th at All-New Englands, First Among Div. III Competition

Boston, MA—The Ephs finished 5th of 39 teams and were first among Division III teams at All-New England Regional Championships, hosted by Northeastern University. The meet offered stiff competition from Division I teams, in addition to Division III rivals such as MIT, Tufts and Middlebury. Boston College won the meet with 102 points, followed by UNH (93), UMass Amherst (60), and UVM (50) ahead of Williams (40.75).

On Friday, Tanasia Hoffler ’13 took 3rd place in the long jump, jumping 5.48m. She came back on Saturday to capture 2nd in the triple jump, clearing 11.93m. Her current season best, which ranks her first among Div. III competitors nationally, would have won the event at All-New Englands by a .09m margin. Also in the jumps, Julie Paschal ’13 took 7th in the high jump (1.60m).

Elise Johnson ’10 won her heat of the 100m hurdles to qualify for finals, where she took 2nd place in 14.87 seconds. Hillary Higgs ’12 ran 25.09 in the 200m dash, finishing 5th and qualifying for finals.

Lizzy Danhakl ’11 had one of the best performances of her career in the 800, as she ran 2:13.07, placing 5th and beating out all of her Division III competition. This time moves her up in the rankings for nationals.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Sarah Tory ’11 ran a personal best of 11:10.55, finishing 11th. Her time is within the provisional qualifier for NCAAs, but does not place her high enough in the rankings to gain entrance.

Bret Scofield ’10 rounded out her collegiate career with a solid 5k performance, finishing ahead of all Division III competitors, including Little Three rival Julia Mark of Wesleyan. Scofield ran 17:52.65, good for 11th place.

The women’s 4x400 relay team had its best performance of the season, running 3:54.27 and finishing 5th.

The Ephs head to Springfield College next weekend for ECAC Championships, one of the last chances to qualify for NCAAs.
