PHILADELPHIA, PA--Jennifer Gossels '13 ran a strategic 10,000m race at Penn Relays, finishing 15th in a field of 34 with a time of 36:09. Despite the late 10:30 pm start time, Gossels ran strong, holding on at a blistering pace as she ran splits of 18:15 for the first 5k and 17:54 for the second.
Gossels's time is well within the provisional qualifying standards for Division III NCAA Championship, and it is only 21 seconds off of the automatic qualifier of 35:48. Her time places her 8th in the Div. III national rankings. The high caliber Division I competition at the meet offered Gossels the opportunity to compete among seasoned athletes. The 10,000m champion, Joana Rivero of Turabo University, finished in 34:13.37.
The rest of the Ephs will compete at the NESCAC Championship, hosted by Tufts University this Saturday.
