HADLEY, MA -- Senior captain Elise Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles at the UMass-Amherst Spring Meet in with a time of 14.22 seconds. She also completed the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.54.
Johnson narrowly defeated UAlbany’s Christen Griffin in the 100-meter race with a winning margin of just :01. Johnson was the lone non-Division I participant in the race.
Johnson’s time in the 400m hurdles was the second fastest among Division III runners, eclipsed only by classmate Nora Mitchell who was timed in 1:06.92. Johnson appears well on her way to finishing off a stellar career at Williams that saw her garner All-American indoor honors in March.
The Ephs finished fifth at UMass-Amherst Spring Invite and highest among Division III teams.
Next up for Johnson and the Ephs is the Little Three Championships, which will be held on the Tony Plansky Track at Williams on Saturday at noon. The Ephs will be trying to extend their win streak in the Little Three event to 25 with a win on Saturday.
The Ephs dominance in the Little Three Championships has not been compromised by the event’s unusual scoring system of awarding points based not on the top eight finishes in an competition, but limiting each school to having just its top two finishers feature in the team scoring.
