Norton, MA -- The Ephs had a great showing at their first
team-scored meet of the year. Wheaton hosted ten teams and Williams
came out on top with 163.66 points, followed by Tufts University in
2nd place with 103 points. Stonehill rounded out the top three,
scoring 81 points and host Wheaton came in 4th with 58 points.
The field event athletes started their morning early and set the stage for the winning performances that continued throughout the day. First-Year Jasmine Adekoya captured her first collegiate win in the Weight Throw, with a throw of 13.58m. Eileen Becker '12 and Madeline Watson '12 teamed up for 4th and 5th place respectively in the Shot Put. Casey Evans '13 and Sarah Bender '11 put in a strong showing the in Pole Vault, good for 2nd and 4th respectively.
First-Year Tanasia Hoffler was a force to be reckoned with today, as she darted around the fieldhouse skipping from event to event. Although stretched thin, she was able to secure wins in the High Jump (cleared 1.63m) and in the Long Jump (5.24m) and a second place in the Triple Jump (11.31m). Hoffler was not alone but was accompanied by teammates who scored points toward the overall team victory. Julie Pascal '13 was all smiles as she clear 1.58m in the High Jump, good for 2nd place. In the Triple Jump, Karyn Moss '12 and Brooke Johnson '13 helped Williams secure 3 of the top 4 places, with jumps of 10.77m and 10.59m respectively.
The running events kicked off with the 5000m run. The Ephs moved up throughout the race and ending up scoring 3 runners with Ti na Meade '11 finishing 2nd with a time of 18:27 and Elly Teitsworth '10 and Ceci Davis-Hayes '11 taking 4th and 5th respectively. In the other distance events, Jess Clarke '10 ran a gutsy race to take 2nd in the Mile run and was rewarded by a personal best time of 5:12. Rebecca Fine '13 was good for 4th place in the 800m.
The Ephs advanced three sprinters to the Final of the 55m dash. Hilary Higgs '12, Tanasia Hoffler '13 and Elise Johnson '10 blazed by in less than 8 seconds to take 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively. Johnson '10 also took home two first place finishes: the 55m hurdles and the 200m dash, while Higgs '12 ran sub-60 seconds to break the tape in the 400m. Captain Nora Mitchell '10 followed her closely, sprinting the two lap race in 61.23 seconds for 4th place.
The long day ended with the relays, as is the custom. First up was the Distance Medley Relay (DMR). Alysha McElroy lead of with the 1200m leg, followed by Katherine Belk '13 on the 400m leg, to Brooke Pfister '13, and finally to Jess Clarke '10, who passed a few competitors, finishing 2nd. The 4x200 was good for second, as the staple sprinters of the meet (Hoffler, Johnson, Mitchell, and Higgs) teamed up for a speedy 1:46.99. Finally, the 4x400m relay rounded out the day as Williams took third.
On Friday, the Ephs will compete at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
