Boston, Mass., was home to some of the region's best runners this Valentine's Day weekend. Friday afternoon Hillary Higgs ‘12 competed in the 55m dash and finished with a time of 7.50 seconds. In the 400m Maya Harakawa '12 who wasn't racing much due to injury sprinted around the track to a time of 1:01.82 and a personal best. Later on in the day six athletes competed in the 800 coming out on the top of the group was sophomore Sara Wild running a time of 2:16.56. Robin Kuntz ‘09 made a spectacular comeback in her first race of the season. Back from being ill and knowing she only had one chance, she qualified for DIII in the 800 running a time of 2:24.87 on less then two weeks of training.

At 10:45 Saturday morning another group of women were faced with a challenge of qualifying. This time the task at hand was making NCAAs for DIII. The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) was run by Jessica Clarke '10, Hillary Higgs '12, Sara Wild '11, and Ariel Williams ‘10. The DMR finished 4th overall running a time of 11:59.02, good enough for provisional qualification for Nationals. In talking to the athletes of the DMR they all believe that they can drop a second or two. Good news to the coaches and fellow teammates.

Also on Saturday February 14th all the women on the Williams track and field team had a date with the track and M.I.T.

On the distance side, coming back from study abroad, Olga Kondratjeva '10 won the 1000m in 3:03.24. Julie McNamera ‘09 also took 3rd in the 1000m for Williams. In the mile Ryan Jane Jacoby ‘09 took 5th while in the 3k Mary Feeley '09 took 3rd and Gillian Tedaschi took 4th both running well under 11 minutes. Williams would also go on to take 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the 5k with Kathleen Durante ‘11, Natalia Rey de Castro, Elleree Erdos ‘12.

Looking ahead in the week to come the Ephs have one of their biggest meets of the year coming up. DIII New Englands will be held at Bowdoin this year and all members of the Eph team will be involved in one way or another. The Ephs have more then a good chance a taking the title and are going to do whatever they can to make to make it happen. Head Coach Fletcher Brooks' words to the team were "We are putting good times, distances and heights together at just the right time. Our biggest team meet of the season is one week away. Plan ahead...Plan for  success! Let's bring the New England Championship titles back to Williams!" There is nothing more to say than good luck to the team.
