Ephs Shine at Div I New England's

The Ephs posted outstanding times at Division I New Englands this Friday and Saturday, proving that the team is right on pace for some fast times in the championship season. Running against top Division I schools, Williams stayed competitive and turned in some great times for the first major championship meet.

The Ephs got things going Friday night with several solid performances.  The Ephs continued their success with senior Carrie Plitt in the 400, placing to make it in the finals and freshman Kathie Nyholm with a season best of 1:19 in the 500. The team rounded out the night with a stellar performance in the Distance Medley Relay of Bret Scofield, Plitt, Laura Walls, and Olga Kondratjeva, coming in 4th with a time of 11:51 and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Div. III Championships.

In the 1k junior Heather Bemis ran a time of 3:02 to come in fourteenth. Meanwhile freshman Sara Wild and sophomore Ariel Williams placed high enough to make the finals in the 800 on Saturday, later placing 3rd and 4th, respectively, against stiff competition and hitting strong provisional marks of 2:14.

On Saturday the Ephs got out to a good start in the mile with senior Laura Walls and sophomore Olga Kondratjeva, each running season bests. Plitt continued her speedy streak with a 7th place finish in the 400 with a time of 57.65. Sophomore Shawna McArdle ran a 26.44 in the 200 for a new personal best. The Ephs rounded out the day with fabulous relays. The 4x800 team of Heather Bemis, Kathie Nyholm, Nora Mitchell, and Ceci Davis-Hayes ran a time 9:24 to make DI All-New Englands. Finally, the 4x400 team of Plitt, Wild, Veronica Ivey, and Emily Heaslip came in 9th with a time of 3:54 to better their provisional time for the NCAA Championship meet.

“I am happy with the way everyone ran. Everyone did a good job,” said Coach Dick Farley. The Ephs will compete next at ECACs at Harvard on March 7th
