Ephs prep for Div. III New Englands with strong showing at Tufts

The women’s track & field team traveled to Medford MA
this past Saturday to compete in the Tufts Stampede. This
meet was the last chance for the Ephs to hit the qualifying
standards for the upcoming Division III New England
Championship.
Sophomore Tara Obeg, who studied in Ecuador for the month of
January, started the day off by qualifying in the pole vault with
her leap of 8’ 9”. Elly Teitsworth finished 6th in the
mile with a time of 5:19.34, while KK Durante also qualified for
Division III New Englands with her time of 5:30.65 in the mile.
Beth Links qualified in the 3000m run, crossing the line in
10:58.84.
The Ephs again demonstrated how deep they are in the middle
distances, posting several top finishes. In the 800, senior
Lissy Robie added her name to another national list. After
qualifying in the mile three weeks ago, Robie cruised to a time of
2:16.74 to just hit the provisional standard in the 800.
Freshman Ceci Davis-Hayes had a top finish in the 1000m run, coming
in 7th with a time of 3:05.45. Sophomore Nora Mitchell led a
strong Eph contingent in the 600 meter dash, placing 5th with her
time of 1:40.47, followed closely by freshman Kathie Nyholm 7th
(1:41.43) and senior Veronica Ivey 8th (1:41.51).
Shawna McArdle finished 6th in the 400 meters with a time of
1:02.04, winning her heat by over four seconds. Senior Carrie
Plitt finished 3rd in the 400 with a time of 59.60 and also placed
3rd in the 55m dash with a time of 7.43. Sophomores Emily
Heaslip (26.99) and Elise Johnson (27.70) posted a 3-4 finish in
the 200 meter dash.
The Ephs capped off their day off with a 2nd place finish in the
4x800m relay. Davis-Hayes and Mitchell combined with juniors
Jessica Clarke and Robin Kuntz to run a 9:39.78. Overall, the
women looked to be in top shape and ready to compete for the
Division III New England title on Saturday at Smith College in
Northampton, MA.
