The Williams women’s track & field team headed to Boston on Friday evening to compete in the Reebok Boston Indoor Games, hosted by Northeastern University.  The Ephs were ready for the opportunity to run fast, paced by top Division I competition and running on a banked track for the first time this season.

From the first event on the track it was clear the Ephs were primed for a good day, as the women’s mile run featured several top performances.  Freshman Lizzy Danhakl placed 4th with a time of 5:05.17 just one second off a national qualifying mark.  Right behind her was senior Laura Walls, taking 6th place with a time of 5:06.21.  Sophomore Emily Heaslip showed she hasn’t missed a beat after studying away for the month of January.  In her first race of the season, she earned a 6th place finish in the 400 meter dash, covering the ground in 1:00.27.

The middle distance crew displayed their talent and depth, placing three runners in the top 12 of both the 800 meter and the 1000 meter runs.  In the 1000, senior captain Lissy Robie, sophomore Bret Scofield, and junior Heather Bemis worked together throughout the race and earned 8th, 9th, and 10th place finishes respectively.  Robie crossed the line in 3:00.45, followed by Scofield in 3:01.40 and Bemis in 3:01.47, qualifying all three runners for the All New England Championships.

In the 800 meters, sophomore Ariel Williams and freshman Sara Wild battled a tough field and both met the provisional qualifying standard for the national meet.  Williams finished in 4th place with a time of 2:14.96, with Wild close behind in 6th place, running 2:15.14.  Junior Robin Kuntz was not far behind, finishing in 12th place with her time of 2:22.19.

The Ephs had one more strong effort in them, as Williams, Kuntz, Walls, and Scofield came back to run in the distance medley relay at the end of the meet.  The four combined to cover the 4000 meter race in 12:26.17, good for a second place finish.

The Ephs finished in 6th place overall by scoring 35 points, with Boston College taking first place with 170.66 points.

Next week the Ephs travel to Dartmouth College for the Dartmouth Indoor Classic.
