| Lindsay Morehouse |
Lindsay Morehouse '00 was a standout student, athlete, and
member of the Williams community. An analyst for Keefe, Bruyette
& Woods in New York City, Lindsay was one of three Williams
alumni/ae who died during the tragic events of September 11,
2001.
Lindsay's upbeat personality, indomitable spirit, and willingness
to befriend, engage, and support those around her earned her the
respect, friendship and admiration of all who knew her in the
Williams community. The contributions of this remarkable young
woman to the college were many and far-reaching, and nowhere felt
more deeply than in the Williams women's tennis team.
Lindsay's on court achievements as a member of the Eph squad were
many. She started on the team all four years, led the Ephwomen to
four straight NCAA tournaments (including a second place finish in
1999), was a 1998-99 All-American, and was team captain her senior
year. Even more remarkable, however, was the standard she set for
herself and her teammates as members of the Williams team.
On court, she worked as hard as anyone on the team to learn and
improve. Her competitive comportment was that of a true Williams
champion ... fair, gracious, and composed in both victory and
defeat.
Off the court, she set the tone for a close-knit team with her
genuine interest in getting to know, befriend, and support every
one of her teammates. She somehow made everyone feel like she was
their friend no matter how much (or little) she had in common with
them. Lindsay devoted everything she had to making sure that the
team experience was as positive as possible for every single team
member. Her teammates' respect for her was immeasurable and the
current team owes much of its success to the legacy of her
exceptional leadership.
Tennis was one of the many ways Lindsay touched lives before
during, and after her time at Williams. Our community was
incredibly lucky to count her among its members, and we continue to
come together to celebrate her legacy.
A tree was planted in Lindsay's memory adjacent the tennis courts
during Homecoming of 2001, a small service has been held on each
anniversary of her death, a memorial tennis round robin was played
in her honor in May of 2002, and a memorial was completed on the
southern entrance to the courts and dedicated on September 2, 2004.
