Alison Swain '01 in SI's Faces in the Crowd

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams head women’s tennis coach Alison Swain ’01 has been named to the “Faces in the Crowd” section in Sports Illustrated magazine’s June 21st edition.

Swain, senior captain and member of the first Williams women’s tennis team to win an NCAA title in 2001 under head coach Julie Greenwood ’96, has guided the Ephs to three consecutive NCAA titles.

Swain has directed the Ephs to a 15-0 NCAA tourney record in her first three years of collegiate coaching and three NCAA titles. Swain has a personal win streak in NCAA tournament play of 20 (5 as a player and 15 as a coach) heading into the 2010-11 season when she will return six of the seven players to the 2011 lineup that won the 2010 NCAA title match win over Emory 5-0.

Williams and Emory are now tied with the most NCAA titles in NCAA Division III women’s tennis with five.

Swain has compiled a glittering record of 65-8 thus far (65-7 versus NCAA Division III teams as this year’s Ephs lost at Division I James Madison University this spring) for a Division III winning percentage of .903 and an overall winning percentage of .890.

Swain is the 28th Eph athlete or coach to appear in “Faces in the Crowd” since August of 1989.
