Ephs Start Strong in Season Ending Tournament

Holyoke, MA – Williams began its final tournament of the fall season in strong fashion.  Despite inclement weather, which caused delays throughout the day, both Eph teams whose matches have finished advanced to the round of 16.

The New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) is played as a pair tournament.  Each team plays an eight game pro-set in doubles play before splitting off to play each other in singles matches.  The winner of the best of three match advances.  The team of Nancy Worley ’13 and Genny Loomis ’11 opened the tournament by defeating the Babson #2 team of Liz Sheerin and Lorena Becerra 3-0.  Worley and Loomis than defeated Colby’s top team 3-0 to advance to play tomorrow morning at 8:30.  Williams’ #2 team of Nikki Reich ’11 and Taylor French ’12 had an opening round bye and bested the #2 team from Springfield College 3-0 in their afternoon match to advance in the tournament.

Williams has two other teams in the A-draw and one in the B-draw.  Due to the delays, the tournament is expected to run late into the night with some matches potentially being played tomorrow.  More results to follow when available.
