Ephs Rebound in Sweep of Wellesley

Williamstown, MA – Williams regained their
winning form today, following a painful loss to archrival Amherst
by defeating Wellesley College 9-0. The Ephs started
strong, dropping only eight games in three doubles matches and
carried that momentum into singles play where Williams won all but
one set.
Last year, Williams squeaked past Wellesley, a perennial power in the NEWMAC conference, 5-4, but today the Ephs played at another level. Coach Allison Swain was impressed with the performance, saying: “I was really proud of the team today. Wellesley is a good team and we rebounded very positively from a tough loss yesterday.” Swain, who saw room for improvement in certain areas following the Amherst loss noted that, “in particular, we played very aggressive doubles and closed out important games extremely well.”
The match marked the close of the fall dual-match season, as the Ephs travel to Smith College next weekend to participate in the NEWITT tournament to conclude the season. Williams played three matches as a team in the fall, going 2-1, and gaining valuable experience for the spring.
