Ephs remain unbeaten down South defeating Wash. U, 7-1

4-year All-American Cary Gibson '09

ATLANTA, GA. - Top-ranked Williams women's tennis picked up another win over a nationally-ranked opponent, defeating #15 Washington University at the Emory University campus, 7-1.  The Ephs are now undefeated on their spring break swing, taking down three ranked opponents in the last week, and are 7-0 on the season.

Williams suffered their only loss at number one doubles.  Cary Gibson and Nikki Reich fell to Swaller and Kocemba of Washington, 8-6.  The other two Ephs pairs tallied victories for a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

The Ephs took care of business quickly in singles, with Grace Baljon, Reich, Kristin Alotta, and Ashley Parsons delivering routine straight set victories at courts one, three, four, and five respectively.  Gibson lost the first set at court two, but rallied for the last two sets to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Williams will play a huge match tomorrow against #2 Washington and Lee at 9:00 a.m.  It will be a rematch of last year's NCAA final, in which the Ephs defeated Washington and Lee, 5-4, to clinch a national championship.
