LEXINGTON, VA -- Washington & Lee
(W&L), the defending NCAA Division III champions and ranked 1st
nationally, almost exactly the same as they were in 2007 when they
met the Ephs and lost, edged the Ephs this year 5-4 on their home
courts.
A year ago playing W&L at Trinity University in San Antonio
the Ephs edged the top-ranked Generals 5-4 to close out a perfect
spring break trip at 8-0, which included wins over six teams ranked
nationally.
With the win Washington & Lee improved to 16-0 and the Ephs
are now 7-2, after having their five-match win streak snapped.

"It was a battle like I haven't experienced since Iplayed in the
NCAAs for Williams," said Eph head coach Alison Swain of the 5
½ hour-match that had its final two hours completed indoors.
"I couldn't ask the girls for anything more and I could not be more
proud of them."
"It was almost exactly the same as last year's spring break
match… we'll take this match and be better for it."
Washington & Lee won at one and three doubles and the six
singles matches were split evenly with Williams claiming the top
three and W&L taking the bottom three. The match clinching win
came at four singles in a three-set tiebreaking win by W&L's
Leah Weston.
The next match for the Ephs will be just over 12 hours from the
conclusion of today's match as tomorrow morning they will face the
Tigers of Trinity University (TX), ranked 11th, at 10:00 am also at
Washington & Lee.
The Ephs will then close out their spring break trip with another
10:00 am match on Saturday against 4th-ranked Emory University.
