Ephs top Point Loma in spring break opener

SAN DIEGO, CA – Alison Swain's Williams women's tennis
team improved to 4-1 on the year by winning their opening match of
spring break this afternoon at Point Loma Nazarene 7-2. The Sea
Lions of Point Loma fell to 6-9 on the year with the loss.
The Ephs won six of seven singles and two of three doubles in
their first outdoor match of the spring.
"We were anxious to get this season started," stated Swain. We
just wanted to get out here and play a match. We've talked a lot
about using the spring break trip to play the kind of tennis we
want to be playing in April and May and I think we did that
today."
Point Loma was only able to record wins at one singles and one
doubles on the day as the Ephs showed balance and depth down the
lineup. All of the singles matches were decided in straight
sets.
In doubles the Ephs number one duo of Annie Schneidman and Cary
Gibson battled back from a 7-3 deficit to tie and go ahead in their
showdown with Kristin Strimple and Kelsey Weir before losing 9-8
(7-2).
One of the aspects of the Ephs' play today that Swain was pleased
about was how her team responded in tight matches. "Today, most
importantly, in tight matches we were able to shift the momentum in
our favor."
The Ephs will look to continue their momentum on the 22nd when
they line up against Claremont in a match slated for an 11:00 am
PST start.
