WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- The Williams College women's swimming and diving team glided to a 197-90 victory against Union College, increasing their winning streak to five. The Ephwomen showcased their tremendous depth, winning eleven out of the sixteen events, including sweeps in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and 500-yard freestyle, while experimenting with events.

Hannah Wilson dominated both the 1 and 3-meter dives, qualifying for nationals in both.

Williams set the dominant tone from the start of the meet, not giving up a first place until the 100-yard freestyle, where Union’s Erica Fugger (55.75) just outreached Williams’ Abbie Deal by 0.03 seconds.

The Ephwomen struck back in the next event, as Caroline Wilson (2:07.97) and Katharine O’Leary (2:15.90) took the top spots in the 200-yard backstroke.

“The women turned out solid performances despite going through a hard week of work.  Kelsey Roggensack and Christina Metcalf had great swims.  The Turner sisters also swam admirably,” said head coach Steve Kuster.

Roggensack established an NCAA B-cut time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.64).  Caroline Wilson picked up two NCAA B-cuts in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.94) and 100-yard butterfly (57.87), while Christina Metcalf and KC Ha both earned NCAA B-cut times in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.76) and 100-yard butterfly (57.94), respectively.

The Ephs face Springfield College away this Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:00 pm.
