MIDDLEBURY, VT - Hoping to win their 10th straight NESCAC Championship this weekend, the Williams College women's swimming and diving team smoked their competitors on day one with a n overall score of 663.5 points. Tomorrow the action will continue against rivals Amherst (518.5 points today), Tufts (443.5), and Middlebury (432) with trials beginning at 10AM.

First year Caoline Wilaon set a Williams record in the 500 ffree, placing second in 4:52.57 and that is also a "A" qualifying time for the NCAAs.

"As for today, there were some stand out swims, in particular Joanna Hoffman had a great morning 500 and relay split," stated head coach Steve Kuster. "Becca Maher and Caroline Wilson (new school record in 500) had very good swims tonight in the 500.  Ellen Ramsey, Kate O'Leary and Kelsey Roggensack all had very good 200 IM's.  KC Ha and Abby Islan also had some very good swims today. Both divers, Kera McClelland and Hannah Wilson were top 8 contributing in a big way to the effort."

"Especially impressive was the B  400 MR team of Ramsey, Metcalf, Roggensack and Hancock who won the B final and would have been 2nd in the A final to the Williams A team. B teams cannot move up and beat A teams however.  That relay is also ranked 8th in the country, unfortunately only one each team can only take one relay NCAA's.  The A relay team of Ha, Cucolo, Todhunter and Wilson is presently ranked 3rd or 4th in the country."

"Tomorrow is "moving day," especially in the morning.  I am looking for us to come out very strong tomorrow and hopefully extend our lead and get a few more people to NCAAs."

Also notable efforts were turned in by ophomore Logan Todhunter, who came in first during the 50 yard butterfly and set a pool record with a time of 25.27. Along with teammates Bryn Dunbar, Sophia Sequeira, and Katharine O'Leary, Todhunter also picked up a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:41.27), earning the NESCAC title.  Ellen Ramsey, who won the 200 individual medley (2:05.98), as well as the 400 medley relay with teammates, Dunbar, Lisa Cucolo, and Kelsey Roggensack.
