Ephs 5th after Day 1 of NCAAs

OXFORD, OH. -- A fourth-place finish by the 400 medley relay highlighted a strong day for the Williams College women's swimming and diving team at the 2008 NCAA Div. III Swimming & Diving Championships being held at the Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami of Ohio University.
The Ephs stand in a tie for fifth place after the first day of the championships with 71 points, tied with Washington University and just one point behind fourth-place Emory University. Keynon College, which is aiming for its 22nd national championship, leads the field with 205 points.
"Our morning swims were great," Ephs head coach Steve Kuster said. "In the 200 IM, Amanda Nicholson, Ellen Ramsey and Crissy Haley all had their best times, We just need a few more people to get into the act. I think fourth through eighth place should be a pretty good battle."
Williams accumulated its most points from the aforementioned 200 IM. Nicholson and Ramsey finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 2:05.91 and 2:06.24. Senior Haley placed 14th with a time of 2:08.71.
The Ephs' 400 medley team of Nery Nicholson, Haley, senior Jenna Barbary and first year Olivia Card-Childers also put together a fine performance, finishing fourth with a time of 3:53.55. Card-Childers had a strong day as she put together a time of 24.29 seconds in the 50 free, good for 16th place overall.
