Ephwomen down Union
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Williams College women' swimming and diving team (3-0) won 14 events en route to a 215-84 victory over Union College. The meet was the first action the Ephs have seen since beating Boston College on December 2nd.
"Today we were really able to spread out our lineup a lot," said head coach Steve Kuster. "They're were a lot of different people in races they don't normally swim, and it was a good showing of our depth."
Three of the Ephs top performers on the day came from the same 200 yard medley relay team. Sophomore Sophia Sequeira and first years Nancy McInerney and Ellen Ramsey, teamed up with junior Courtney Asher to finish first with a time 1:51.06. Ramsey went on to post victories in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:35.17) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.40), while McInerney finished first in the 100 yard butterfly (59.96).
Continuing her relay success, Sequeira, along with sophomores Lisa Cucolo and Christina Metcalf, and first year Olivia Card-Childers, bested the field in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:41.39). Sequiera also finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (25.56), while Cucolo posted the top time in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.06) and the 100 yard freestyle (55.02). Metcalf also posted multiple victories with her win in the 500 yard freestyle (5:13.30).
Rounding out the event victories for the Ephs were senior Jenna Barabary in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:31.85), senior Crissy Haley in the 200 yard IM (2:15.56), senior Julie Van Deuson in the 3 meter dive (243.07), junior Ann Marie Zollo in the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.55), and junior Mary Wilson Molen in the 200 yard freestyle (1:59.13).
"There were definitely some encouraging swims and performances today," said Kuster. "Hopefully this keeps the ball rolling toward a good showing next weekend."
The Ephs next see action January 12th at Amherst.
