
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Williams senior Toby Eyre (Gladwyne, PA) has set a very high standard for future women’s squash players at Williams by becoming the just the second female Eph player to be named All-American all four years and posting the highest Eph finish in national singles play. Adrienne Ellman ’03 was the first Eph to achieve receive All-American laurels all four years.
Eyre recorded the Ephs’ highest individual finish ever at
the College Squash Association individual tourney, the Ramsay Cup,
by claiming third place in 2009. She finished fifth this past
winter.
Eyre played number one for the Ephs all four years and compiled an
overall record of 88-22. As a senior she posted her most wins in a
season 25, eclipsing her previous best of 24, recorded as a junior.
“As a player Toby has been exceptionally successful for Williams,” noted Eph head coach Zafi Levy. “Her game is characterized by strong, hard-hit ground strokes and light, fleet footed movement. In essence, Toby is a wonderful athlete. Her conduct on and off court has been first rate."
"Toby is genuinely like by all her teammates and as a captain she has deliberately gone out of her way to welcome and include freshmen on the team. Toby has always been willing to step on court with anyone on her team, irrespective of position or ability.”
Three times in her career Eyre earned First Team All-NESCAC honors and both years she was eligible she was accorded All-Academic honors by NESCAC.
