Ephs Fall to UPenn and Take Out Hamilton
The sounds of squeaking sneakers and cheering
filled the squash courts on Saturday, January 19th as the Williams
varsity squash team played two very distinct teams: those from the
University of Pennsylvania and Hamilton College.
The Ephs first fell to the University of
Pennsylvania Quakers 8-1. Toby Eyre ’10 grabbed a win for the
Ephs in the number 1 position and defeated Sydney Scott in three
games. Ashley Eyre, normally Williams’ #2 player, was unable
to play due to a shoulder injury, and Toby was permitted to
substitute for her sister. Unfortunately, she was unable to pull
off a second victory of the day, and she lost to Kristen Lange 3-1.
Another tight match was Catie Warner’s ’08 fight
against the Quakers’ Tara Chawla. Although Catie dominated
during the first two games, she was unable to keep up the momentum
and finish off her opponent, leading to a final score for the 3-2
for the Quakers.
In spite of exhaustion from the previous match,
the Ephs then went on to take down Hamilton College’s
women’s varsity squash team 9-0. Every Eph in the top nine
walked off the court with a victory in just three games, and six of
them gave their adversaries no more than five points during their
entire matches.
“I think we are getting better every
week,” said Head Coach Zafi Levy. “The ladies played
very well today and showed how much potential we have. In the next
few weeks, we will face our toughest competition this season, and
we look forward to the challenge.”
