Ephs Defeat the Polar Bears, Mules, and Bobcats
Williams Takes Out Bowdoin, Colby, and
Bates
The Williams women’s squash team (4-5)
headed up to Maine this past weekend, where it solidly defeated
Bowdoin College, Colby College, and Bates College. These wins were
the start to the most important month of the season for the squash
players as they gear up to face rival teams from the University of
Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Brown in the coming weeks.
The Ephs first went up against Bowdoin College
on Friday, whom they took out 7 matches to 2 matches. While Arianna
Kourides and Allie Rottkamp grappled with their opponents, most of
the Ephs soundly defeated their adversaries. Toby Eyre, Catie
Warner, Claire Hsu, and Kavitha Mannava all gave just five points
or less to their opposing players within the entirety of their
matches. Junior Claire Hsu, who just recently returned from abroad,
trounced Bowdoin’s Sarah Podmaniczky with a perfect score of
9-0, 9-0, 9-0.
Later on in the day, the Ephs faced off against
the Colby Mules and vanquished them 9-0. Once again, four Ephs
overpowered their competitors, granting them no more than five
points over the course of their matches. This time, those
particular Ephs were Toby Eyre, Catie Warner, Allison Rottkamp, and
Kavitha Mannava. All of the Williams players defeated their
opponents in just three games.
The team then headed to Bates College, where
they fought against the Bobcats and emerged with victorious 8-1.
Toby Eyre, Ashley Eyre, Catie Warner, Caroline Henry, Claire Hsu,
and Kavitha Mannava all quickly took out their opponents in three
games. After loosing her first game 9-4, Jennifer then came back
and won the last three games 9-6, 9-3, 9-6.
Head Coach Zafi Levy said of the matches,
“It was impressive watching our team playing this weekend.
This is one of the best teams we have had in years. Our bottom of
the line-up is very young and inexperienced and has much room for
improvement.”
