William Battles Trinity College and Princeton University

     Williams College’s women’s varsity squash team fought against two of their most difficult adversaries this weekend: Trinity College and Princeton University.
    The Ephs first faced off against the Trinity Bantams at Trinity College on Saturday. Although the players fought hard, they fell to the Bantams with a final score of 0-9. In her final game against Trinity’s Emily Paton, Williams junior Arianna Kourides went out with a battle, tying the game at 8-8, only to loose by two points. Sophomore Toby Eyre vied with Trinity’s Lauren Polonich at the number one position. Toby as defeated in the first game, demolished Lauren 9-0 in the second, and then lost the last two games 9-6 and 9-7, respectively.
    The team then traveled down to Princeton, New Jersey, where they took on the Princeton Tigers, last year’s National Champions. Williams sophomore Jennifer Coxe competed against Princeton’s Emery Maine at the number three spot on the ladder, initially loosing the first two games, then taking the third, and being defeated in the fourth. The match at the number one position oscillated between Williams’ Toby Eyre and Princeton’s Amanda Seibert with Toby taking the first and third games 9-0 and 9-4 and Amanda grabbing the second, fourth and fifth games for the victory.
    Assistant Coach Blair Dils said of the weekend, “We faced two outstanding opponents this weekend and many of our players played some of their best squash of the season. Despite the lopsided scores, we had several great performances today against Princeton. In particular, Catie Warner, Jennifer Coxe and Toby Eyre all played high level squash.”
