KANSAS CITY, KS – Williams College women’s soccer coach Michelyne Pinard has been named the 2009 NSCAA/Mondo New England Division III Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). This marks the third consecutive year that Pinard has been accorded NSCAA New England Coach of the Year honors as she previously was selected in 2007 and 2008.
The NSCAA/Mondo regional recipients are
selected based on a vote of their peers. Regional Coaches of the
Year are finalists for the NSCAA/Mondo National Coach of the Year
award at their respective levels. In NCAA play, any coach who is
not selected a Regional Coach of the Year but advances to the
national tournament semifinals is added to the ballot for National
Coach of the Year.
The national awards will be announced at the annual NSCAA Awards
Banquet, which will be held Friday evening, January 15, in the
Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Downtown in Philadelphia as part of
the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
This past fall Pinard guided the Ephs to a 19-1 record and a ninth place finish nationally. The Ephs won, the Little Three title outright, their third consecutive NESCAC title and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before losing for the first time all season to The College of New Jersey 1-0. The 19 consecutive in-season wins is a new school record at Williams.
Williams out scored the opposition 65-9 this season and posted 13 shutouts.
For the third straight year Pinard was honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year, sharing honors this fall with Peter Kim of Middlebury.
Over the last three seasons Pinard’s booters have compiled a glittering record of 55-3-1 without losing a regular season contest. Williams has not lost a regular season contest under Pinard since 10/21/06 when they were defeated 1-0 at Tufts. Williams has gone 42 consecutive regular season games without a loss and the Eph sare 41-0-1 in the skein.
This season’s 19 wins tied the school record established in 2008. Pinard's 2008 Ephs compiled a record of 19-1-1 and finished third nationally. The Ephs also won a piece of the 2008 Little Three title and captured their second straight NESCAC title.
After guiding the Ephs to a then program record 17 wins in a season in 2007 and an in-season win streak record of 17 that resulted in a perfect regular season, the 2007 NESCAC title and a run in the NCAA Tournament, Pinard's Ephs advanced to the "Sweet 16" in the NCAA Tourney, finishing with a record of 17-1. Pinard was named the 2007 NESCAC Coach of the year and the NSCAA/adidas New England Coach of the Year.
Under Pinard, the Ephs have qualified for the NESCAC Tournament all eight years while compiling an overall record of 102-24-15 (.777) and 50-15-6 (.746) in NESCAC play.
