Williams junior captain and central defender Kara Duggan (Poway, CA) has been named to ESPN’s The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

To achieve academic all-district honors a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and possess a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

Duggan, an economics and political science major, has started all 15 games this season for the 15-0-0 Ephs. She is a three-year mainstay on the Eph backline where she has started all 51 games. The Ephs have compiled an incredible 49-2-0 mark. Williams has also fashioned a third consecutive undefeated campaign in the regular season.

Duggan has scored two goals this season off of corner kick situations and has one game-winner. She directs an Eph defense that has allowed an average of eight shots a game and has surrendered just three goals this season.  “Kara is our quarterback in the back,” said Eph head coach Michelyne Pinard. “She’s great at organizing the eight players in front of her. She’s our voice and our reason along the backline.”

Duggan has played the most minutes of any player on the Williams team with 1,335 minutes. “Kara only comes off the field when the game is well in hand,” said Pinard.  “Her tenacity is a great strength for our backline.”

Duggan earned All-NESCAC Second Team honors in 2008 and is a 2009 Academic All-NESCAC selection. She has been named to the Dean’s List three times.
