Woodson, Pinard receive NESCAC's top honors; 5 Ephs First Team All-NESCAC; D3kicks.com honors

Williams College junior Gabrielle Woodson was selected by the conference coaches as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, it was announced Thursday.

In addition, Williams head coach Michelyne Pinard was named the 2007 NESCAC Coach of the Year. It is the first time Pinard has been selected for that honor. Pinard is in her sixth season at Williams, and has a .714 win percentage at the school (63-21-14).

In all, five members of the 16-0-0 Eph team were selected First Team All-NESCAC. Joining Woodson were sophomore forward Brianna Wolfson, senior midfielder Kaolin McEvoy, junior back Caitlin Colesanti and sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Sinnenberg.

D3kicks.com named Woodson and McEvoy First Team All-New England, while Sinnenberg and Colesanti earned Second Team honors and Brianna Wolfson garnered Third Team laurels.

The Ephs are scheduled to take on Springfield College Saturday at 1 p.m. in an NCAA Tournament second round contest at Cole Field.

Woodson scored in 11 of the Ephs first 16 games this season, in the process notching six game-winning goals. She currently leads the team with 35 points and 14 goals — she also has 7 assists. Woodson becomes the first NESCAC Player of the Year since Jill Caterer accomplished that feat in 1999. Her 14 goals broke the school's single-season mark set by Mindy Thompson in 1997.

Wolfson was equally dynamic for an Eph team which to date has produced 48 goals, notching 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points so far. McEvoy, a captain, was the leader of the midfield. She helped generate the offensive flow for the Ephs and provided sterling defense as well. She also notched one goal and two assists on the season.

Colesanti was the lone upperclassmen of a young backfield for Williams and payed sensationally all season.  She was a big reason why Williams has surrendered only four goals so far this year. Another big part of that is sophomore goalkeeper Sinnenberg, who has nine shutouts to her credit, 16 wins, a 0.21 goals against average and a conference –leading .938 save percentage.
