WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Eph grapplers maintained a firm grip on
the top spot in the New England rankings. This week the Ephs
dominated the NEWA Team Duals, winning all three of their matches
by wide margins.
The Ephs were paced by 141 pound senior Dylan Rittenburg.
Rittenburg won all three of his matches two by pin and one by major
decision, was named the NEWA Wrestler of the Week.
Rittenburg’s performance was enough to also elevate him into
second place of the most recent NEWA individual rankings
Senior Carl Brietenstein, last week’s NEWA wrestler of the
week, remained the top ranked wrestler at 157 pounds.
Ryan Malo, the Williams career leader in pins, and Jon Foster saw
their rankings unchanged. Malo is still the top ranked wrestler at
197 and Foster is ranked 7th at 165.
The Ephs saw two of their grapplers enter the rankings for the
first time. George Sullivan had two wins, one of which was by
pin-fall, at the NEWA Team Duals and entered the 174 pound rankings
in the 8th spot. Andrew Gatewood, filling in for injured Eph Nate
Shippee, is now ranked 7th at 184.
Two grapplers, Josh Mattana and Corey Paulish, rode their
dominating performances at the NEWA Team Duals to improved
individual rankings. Mattana won all three of his matches including
a tight match over Mike Bastante, the top ranked wrestler at 125.
Mattana is now ranked 4th at 125. Corey Paulish easily won his
match over 3rd ranked Kevin Sutherland 9-2 and is now ranked 2nd at
149.
Freshman Tom Foote and Ces Antista remained ranked. Foote is
ranked 5th at 285 and Antista is ranked 4th at 133.
The Ephs return to the mats in a quad meet on Saturday January 30
against Hunter, TCNJ, and NYU.
