Ephs remain top ranked team in NE, Wrestlers make gains in individual rankings

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA- The Williams wrestling team was once again unanimously named the top team in New England. This past week the Ephs went 3-0 at the Metro NY/NE Duals defeating 11th ranked TCNJ, Hunter College, and NYU.

For only the second time in school history, (last week was the first) the Ephs are able to start ranked wrestlers in each of their ten weight classes. This week Dylan Rittenburg was able to leap frog USM’s Matt Ulrich, giving the Ephs three wrestlers who are ranked first in New England. The other two are senior standout Carl Breitenstein who won two matches at last weekends duals and junior Ryan Malo who relished the pressure of being named to Sports Illustrated Faces in The Crowd and had three pins, including the deceive decision in the Ephs match against TCNJ.

The Ephs also have two wrestlers ranked second in New England. Junior Corey Paulish won all three of his matches this weekend and remained in the second position at 149. Joining him is junior Josh Mattana who turned a number of heads this weekend by going 3-0 and has won each of his last nine matches.

Freshman Ces Antista and Tom Foote continue to earn the respect of opposing wresters and coaches, Antista is ranked 3rd at 133 and Foote is ranked seventh at 285.

George Sullivan, the 174 pound stalwart has continued his strong wrestling since returning from injury. In this weeks poll he moved up three spots to fifth.

Also ranked for the Ephs are Dylan Rittenburg, 6th at 184, and Jon Foster ranked 7th at 165.

The Ephs return the mats this Saturday in a quad meet against Oneonta, Lycoming, and rival Wesleyan. The match will be held at Oneonta College
