Eph standout 197-pound wrestler Ryan Malo (Georgetown, MA/St. John’s Prep) appears in the “Faces in the Crowd” section of the February 1, 2010 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.
Malo is the 27th Eph to appear in the “Faces in the Crowd” section since August 1, 1989.
This season Malo sports a record of 32-4. All
four losses are to Division I opponents. Heading into this
weekend’s Metro NY/NE Duals Malo is 24-0 vs. Division III
opponents and 28 of his 32 victories (.875) have been pins.
Ranked second nationally in Division III, Malo owns 8 wins (7
pins) over Division I opponents. He won the award for most pins in
the least amount of time at the prestigious Midlands Tournament
hosted by Northwestern University when he pinned four Division I
competitors.
Malo fashioned a record of 39-2 in 2008-09, which included 24
pins, the most in all NCAA divisions last season. Malo’s 28
pins this season breaks the Williams record for pins in a season he
set last winter. An All-American in 2009-10, Malo earned the
honor at 197 pounds after moving up from 184 pounds midway through
the season.
Currently Malo’s career record at Williams stands at 68-6 (52 pins).
