BRISTOL, RI -- Today the Williams wrestling team traveled to Roger Williams University to compete in the Scott Viera Invitational. The Ephs preformed well placing second in the team competition. A number of impressive individual efforts enabled the Ephs to place well in a very competitive tournament. The tournament was marked by a number of new faces scoring impressive finishes. Six wrestlers placed with three of them winning their respective weight classes.

The Ephs were strong in each of their weight classes. Ethan Cohen was particularly impressive; he dominated the 125 pound weight class, and was named the Most Outstanding Light Weight in the tournament. The award is an impressive accolade that is well deserved, especially considering the level of commitment Cohen has put in over the last four years.Cohen collected his 100th career win at the tourney.

In the 133 pound weight class Josh Mattana defeated Chris Greenwood (Plymouth State), 18-8.

Dylan Rittenburg continued his impressive junior campaign, winning the 149 pound weight class over Tom Tuminelli (Roger Williams University), 7-1.

In the 157 pound weight class Carl Breitenstein battled extremely hard, earning a third place finish with an impressive win over Zack Kulczycki (Brown), 5-2.

John Foster earned his first tournament championship of the season by defeating Zotollo of Roger Williams University by pin fall at 2:57.

In the 197 pound weight class Kyle Ayer fought to a third place finish defeating Malachy Morris (Brown) by a score of 7-2.

Tim Kiely cruised through 285 pound weight class until he met Joshua St. Ours of Plymouth State. Kiely wrestled admirably but lost to a very worthy opponent, 8-2.

The Scott Viera Invitational was an impressive coming out party for the Ephs. Williams was without their top wrestlers, but the replacements filled the holes admirably. The mark of a great team is how well they can overcome adversity. The Ephs grapplers were unfazed by the challenge. Along the way they showed that they are just as deep and determined as any other team in the country.
