Springfield, MA - The second ranked Ephs sealed an enormous 30
point victory today at the NEWA championships. This is only the
second time ever that the Ephs have won the NEWA championship and
the first time since 1995. The Ephs were also awarded the "Highest
Team GPA" and "Coach of the Year" honors for head coaches Dan
DiCenzo and Rafael Vega.
Eight of the ten Williams wrestlers earned All-New England honors,
finishing in the top six in their weight class. Sophomores Corey
Paulish and Ryan Malo each won their weight class, earning
automatic bids to the NCAA Division III championships at Coe
College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The rest of the squad will have to
wait for the automatic bids to the tournament to be released later
tonight.
Paulish, the number one seed, gave up only six points in the
tournament, defeating Jacob Gire of Trinity 11-2 in the finals.
Malo, the standout transfer from Boston University, rolled through
his early matches with three straight pins before defeating Joe
Silverman of MIT 1-0 and 2-1 in the semi finals and finals,
respectively.
