Ephs top #24 Oneonta, Fall to Wesleyan

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Ephs hosted a tri-meet today with #24 SUNY Oneonta and Wesleyan University.  Williams went 1-1 bringing their season dual meet record to 11-10.

Against Oneonta, Williams jumped out to an early 17-0 lead, getting a tech fall from tri-captain Ethan Cohen '09 and a pin from tri-captain Nic Miragliuolo '08.  Doug Washington '08 put the Ephs up 20-4 with a close, 6-4 victory over Dave Ballard, who was ranked fifth in the country earlier this year.  At 197, Kyle Ayer '09 put it out of reach for Oneonta with a 9-1 major decision over Mike DiOrio.  The Ephs would go on to win 24-17.

In their second match of the day, the Ephs again jumped out to an early lead, winning four of the first five weight classes to go up 15-3.  At 125, Cohen gained his second victory of the day in dramatic fashion, defeating Dan Bloom, the fifth ranked wrestler in New England, 2-0 in sudden victory 2.  Corey Paulish '11, also got his second win defeating Josh Wildes, a two time All-New England wrestler.  Dylan Rittenburg '10 continued the rally at 141 with his second victory, pinning Kyle Backer McKee.  At 157, Carl Breitenstein '10 defeated Zach Rolfe, who was All-New England at 165 last year, 6-2 to give the Ephs the 15-3 lead.  Ayer scored the only other points for Williams, going 2-0 on the day, with an 8-1 win at 197.  

Williams will conclude their dual meet season February 23-24 at the NECCWA Championships.
