
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Ephs gave a dominating performance today taking down the ninth seeded team in New England, Norwich University, by a score of 35-6. Going into today’s match the Ephs were ranked second in New England and 23 in the nation, the highest ranking in program history.
The match was never in doubt, as the Ephs took a 15-3 lead into the strongest part of their lineup, beginning with Tri-Captain Ethan Cohen ’09 at 125. Cohen, ranked third in New England, defeated John DaSilva by tech fall, giving the Ephs a 20-3 advantage. After Cohen, Brian Zane, the number one ranked wrestler in New England, handed the Ephs one of their two losses on the day. Tri-Captain Mike Penza ’09 wrestled a tough match against Zane, trailing by only a single point going into the third period, before finally losing a close, 5-2 decision. Following Penza, Dylan Rittenburg ’10 and Carl Breitenstein ’10 each pinned their opponents in the first period to seal the victory for the Ephs.
The Ephs match up next at home with Simpson on January 4.
