Ephs 1-2 at NEWA Metro Conference Challenge Duals

BRISTOL, RI - The Ephs moved to 10-9 on the year going 1-2 today at the NEWA Metro Conference Challenge at Roger Williams University.

Williams, currently ranked 28th in the country, dropped their first match to #15 New York University by the score of 21-12.  The Ephs jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with wins from Ethan Cohen '09 and Corey Paulish '11.  However, NYU would tally six straight victories before Kyle Ayer '09 could stop the bleeding at 197.  Freshmen Tim Kiely would get Williams only other victory at 285.

In their second match of the day, the Ephs fell to #20 The College of New Jersey, 24-12.  Cohen again kicked off the scoring, this time with a 13-0 major decision, for his second victory of the day.  Williams also got big wins out of Dylan Rittenburg '10 and Nic Miragliuolo '08 to go up 10-3.  Ayer got his second victory of the day with a 6-3 decision to pull the Ephs within five, but TCNJ would hold on for the victory.

After dropping their first two matches, Williams stormed back to defeat Hunter College, 41-3.  Cohen and Ayer each went a perfect 3-0 on the day with pins at 125 and 197.  Sophomore Carl Breitenstein won by tech fall at 157.  Hunter forfeited matches at 174 and 184.

The Ephs host a quad-meet with Wesleyan, Oneonta State, and WNEC on February 10.
