Women's lacrosse became a varsity sport in 1974.

In accordance with NESCAC rules, official practices cannot begin until February 15th. Before this date, team members attain a high level of fitness either by working out on their own or by participating in a winter sport. A number of women's lacrosse team members compete on another varsity team (or teams) and multi-sport participation is encouraged.

The Ephs field both a varsity and JV team, carrying approximately 36 players. The lacrosse team always has room for the complete beginner with 10 or more novice players making the squad each year.

Indoor and captains' practices are conducted in the Towne Field House, which is home to the indoor track teams.

During spring break 20 potential varsity team members travel to Florida for a week of practices, scrimmages and games. This spring trip is a vital part of each season as it gives those involved the opportunity to display their abilities and gives the team a chance to come together. With the main focus of each day being lacrosse, we are able to accomplish a great deal. we continue our fitness training and work on basic skills, as well as fine tune our offense, defense and our transition game.

While academics always comes first at Williams, athletics gives the student -athlete the opportunity to further enjoy the college experience through an extra-curricular activity that centers on cooperation and teamwork and the opportunity to compete against other institutions.
