CAMBRIDGE, MA––Williams (7-4/NESCAC 3-3) extends its winning streak to four in a row with today’s victory over MIT (7-4). After a give-and-take first half, Williams pulled ahead in the second half for a 12-5 victory.
Freshman Sam Weinstein, with help from sophomore Katie Ellis, got the Eph offense rolling 30 seconds into the game. MIT responded seven minutes later, but Kaitlin Ellis and Whitney Kelly each netted a goal to bring the score to 3-1. MIT was able to sneak another goal past Julia Schreiber before sophomores Taylor Fleishhacker and Meera Sivalingam and senior Tracey Ferriter put three more away. MIT scored one more goal before the close of the half, but junior Anne Marie Burke scored off of a feed from Ellis to put in Williams’ final goal of the half. The score at halftime was 7-4 in the Ephs favor.
MIT opened the second half with a goal, but Weinstein and Ellis combined to score two more goals. The Engineers scored their fifth, and final, goal of the game with 22:46 left in the game. The Ephs finished the game on a strong note, with Ellis and Sivalingam netting one more each, and Margie Fulton scored the last goal with an assist from Ferriter.
Head Coach Chris Mason said “We played well. Having games back-to-back is always a challenge and we did a good job. We moved the ball well, moving it up field nicely, and we had some nice goals. Their goalkeeper played very well and they had a strong offense, so our defense had to play well. Katie Ellis had a particularly good game, and she has been turning it on lately. She works really hard through the midfield and moves the ball well. It’s really nice that our scoring is so spread out, we have a lot of players who can take the ball to the net.”
Williams returns to NESCAC play on Saturday when they travel to Wesleyan to take on the Cardinals 12pm.
