SPRINGFIELD, MA- Williams women’s lacrosse (9-4, 4-4 NESCAC) topped Springfield College (9-5) 15-11 to extend their winning streak to three games.  Senior Julia Nawrocki led the Ephs in points with three goals and three assists followed by freshman Margie Fulton who had three goals and two assists.

The teams appeared evenly matched during the first fifteen minutes of play. Williams scored three goals, and Springfield answered each one with a goal of their own.  Julia Nawrocki’s unassisted goal for the Ephs at 14:32 kicked off a four goal scoring streak that put the Ephs ahead 7-3.

In the last two minutes of the half, Erin Doolan put one in for Springfield and Fulton added another point for the Ephs. The first half ended with Williams up 8-4.

The Ephs came out strong in the second half, with a goal from Fulton and two from junior Tina Nawrocki in the first eight minutes.  Nicole Soucie broke through the Eph defense at 18:02 to make the score 11-5.

Springfield scored the next three goals before Williams freshman Taylor Fleishhacker scored three goals of her own in five minutes.  Less than a minute after Fleishhacker’s last goal, Fulton scored her third of the game.

Springfield gained momentum and capitalized on sloppy Eph possession in the last nine minutes.  However, the Pride could not make up their deficit and the game ended with a 15-11 victory for the Ephs.

Sophomore goalie Julia Schreiber made 7 saves for the Ephs and keeper Lauren McAulay turned 15 aside for Springfield.

Ephs head coach Chris Mason credited Springfield for their athleticism and ball handling, but thought her team responded well.  “Everyone played great but Julia Nawrocki got us going and set up a bunch of goals and Julia Schreiber made some outstanding saves.”

The Ephs will next host Redlands April 22nd at 4:30 pm.
