Williams women's lacrosse dominates Skidmore 16-5

Box Score

SARASOTA SPRINGS, NY – Williams women’s lacrosse (7-4, 3-4 NESCAC) dominated Skidmore (16-5) in a decisive 16-5 victory. Junior Whitney Thayer, junior Tina Nawrocki, and freshman Margie Fulton contributed to the Eph victory with a hat trick each.

Less than a minute into the first half, Skidmore’s Abbie Kraus found the net, but Williams was not deterred.  Senior Julia Nawrocki and Tina Nawrocki both scored in the next minute to make the score 2-1 at 28:22.

The Ephs scored the next six goals, including two from Fulton, and one each from Thayer, junior Tracey Ferriter, sophomore Ali Page, and freshman Taylor Fleishhacker.  Skidmore put their second goal on the board at 7:49, and senior Britt Spackman and freshman Katie Ellis both scored for the Ephs to give Williams a 10-2 at the end of the first half.

Williams started the second half with a four goal scoring streak, not only the result of strong offense, but also because the aggressive Eph defense effectively shut down the Skidmore attack.  Skidmore picked up the pressure in the last 12 minutes of play, scoring three goals, and Williams tallied another two of their own.  The game ended with a resounding 16-5 Eph victory.

Williams head coach Chris Mason was particularly happy with her team’s passing.  “Both teams were aggressive, but I really liked the way we moved the ball today.”

Mason was also pleased with her goal tending.  “We were able to use both goalies today and both played great.”  Sophomore Julia Schreiber made 6 saves and freshman Kate Foley made 5.

The Ephs next game is at home this Saturday April 18th at noon against Little Three rival Wesleyan. You can watch a video webcast of the Wesleyan game by clicking here.
