Burns, Spackman earn All-America honors


WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)and US Lacrosse have chosen Williams College seniors Elizabeth Burns and Britt Spackman as 2009 All-Americans.

The IWLCA and US Lacrosse have honored 48 student-athletes in Division III with a selection on one of the All-American teams. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on Saturday, June 13, 2009 in King of Prussia, Pa.

Burns led the Ephs with 53 groundballs, 36 draw controls and 33 caused turnovers. The First Team All-NESCAC and IWLCA First Team All-Region defender also scored three goals and assisted one. She was the Ephs steadiest defender.

Spackman led Williams with 77 points this season, scoring 44 goals and adding a team-high 37 assists. She tied for the lead in game-winning goals with three, was second on draw controls with 33 and second in caused turnovers with 17. She also had 30 groundballs.

Spackman ended her career with 242 points, which puts her in the top 10 all-time at Williams, with 134 goals and 108 assists. She was a Second Team All-NESCAC selection this year and a IWLCA First Team All-Region selection.

It is Spackman's first All-America honor. Burns was selected to the 2008 womenslacrosse.com All-America Second Team and the (IWLCA) All-America Third Team.
