Bates tops Ephs, 13-7

LEWISTON, Me. -- Junior Caroline Thomas scored five goals and added one assist Saturday to help the Bates College women's lacrosse team defeat Williams, 13-7.
The Ephs slipped to 2-3 on the season. The Ephs host Middlebury at 4:30 p.m.
Bates led from start to finish, building a 3-0 lead before Williams senior Sara duPont got the Ephs on the board. It was 6-1 when first-year Anne Marie Burke tallied a goal off an assist from Tracey Ferriter. Bates held an 8-3 lead at the half.
Seniors Allison Murray and duPont led the Ephs with three goals each. Bates finished with a 38-17 advantage in shots. Williams goaltender Julia Schreiber made 13 saves in the loss.
"We didn't handle the ball well enough," Ephs head coach Chris Mason said. "We made a lot of unforced errors and turnovers. We did force them to turn the ball over a lot and we had the advantage in draw controls, but we weren't able to capitalize on the good things we did."
Tina Nawrocki also scored for Williams.
