WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Meghan Gillis has been
named the head coach of women's hockey at Williams College, it was
announced today by Williams Director of Athletics Lisa
Melendy. Gillis has spent the past two years at Pomfret
School as an assistant director of admissions, head girls hockey
coach, and assistant softball coach.
Pomfret compiled a 21-16-9 record during Gillis' tenure. In her
first year as head coach, Pomfret advanced to the Division I
playoffs for the first time since 2006. Prior to Pomfret, Gillis
spent one year as as assistant women's hockey coach at Amherst
College.
A native of Whycocomagh, Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia), Gillis
graduated from Bowdoin College in 2007 with a major in government
and legal studies and a minor in English. Gillis worked, taught and
coached at her high school alma mater, Hebron Academy, following
graduation.
"We are excited that Meghan is coming to Williams as our women's
ice hockey coach," Melendy said. "Meghan brings with her a strong
hockey background, both as a player and as a coach.
Throughout the interview process the committee was impressed by
Meghan's evident love of hockey and coaching as well as her vision
for the program." A highly decorated women's ice hockey player at
Bowdoin, Gillis was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2004, as
her 24 goals and 19 assists left her with the highest point total
both on her team and among conference rookies.
In her four years on the ice, Gillis earned three All-NESCAC Team
honors and one All-America selection, as she graduated from Bowdoin
with 154 career points, good for third on the program's all-time
scoring list. The Polar Bears were a combined 75-26-1 (.740)
during Gillis' time, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament twice,
advancing to the NESCAC finals three times and winning the
conference title once.
"I am excited to be back in the NESCAC and to join the renowned
Williams College Athletic Department," Gillis said. "I am eager to
work with a talented and driven group of student-athletes both on
and off the ice."

Jill Campbell joins the Williams staff soon after completing her career at Bowdoin in 2011 as a four-year member of the Polar Bears’ ice hockey team and having played one year of lacrosse.
Campbell, a Polar Bear tri-captain last winter as a senior, earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors in the 2008 season.
In four years on the ice for the Polar Bears Campbell appeared
in 96 games, tallying 23 goals and assisting on 49 more for 72
points.
She was the Bowdoin team leader in assists last winter with 15 and
she scored 7 goals for 22 points on the year, which tied her for
second on the team in points.
The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia native majored in neuroscience and minored in teaching at Bowdoin.
Prior to arriving at Bowdoin Campbell played four years with Team Nova Scotia the and helped the team win four consecutive Atlantic Challenge Cups and she also appeared in the U-18 Canada Games in 2007.
