HADLEY,
MA -- Williams senior goalie Sara Plunkett (Barrington,
RI) and Colby’s Marissa Simmons were named Co-NESCAC Players
of the Week for their efforts last weekend.
Simmons and Plunkett will square off this Saturday when the Ephs
travel to Colby to face the Mules.
Plunkett posted two shutouts as Williams opened its season with consecutive wins for the first time since the 2001-02 season. In the season-opener in Lansing Chapman Rink vs. Hamilton Plunkett turned aside 29 attempts by the Continentals. Several Plunkett saves kept the Ephs on top for 1-0 a long time before the Ephs tallied an empty net goal to make the final margin 2-0.
Plunkett raised her save total to 36 and a two-game total of 65 when she blanked Connecticut College on Sunday in the Ephs’ 5-0 win.
With the two shutouts last weekend Plunkett now has 5 in her
brief career at Williams that spans just 27 games. Plunkett
transferred to Williams from Division I Colgate and played for the
Ephs last season.
Dating back to last season, Plunkett has not allowed a goal in
123:55.
