Ephs edged by Colby, 4-3

WATERVILLE, ME – Giving up two goals within the last
minute of play, the Williams women’s ice hockey team (1-14-2)
lost to Colby College (9-7-3) this afternoon by a score of 4-3.
The Ephs took full advantage of Colby’s penalties in
today’s game, scoring all three of their goals on the power
play. The Ephs’ first goal came at 15:12 into the first
period when senior captain Caralyn Quan netted an Allison Page
assist to put the Ephs up 1-0.
Colby didn’t answer until 7:22 into the second period when
Elissa Kurtz tied the game at 1. Heather Nickerson and Amanda
Comeau collected assists on the play. Two minutes later, the Mules
took advantage of an Eph penalty to pull ahead 2-1. Scoring on the
power play, Becky Julian was assisted by Andrea Fuwa. Junior Joey
Lye scored next for the Ephs at the 14:23 mark. Assisting on the
play was Allison Page. The game remained tied at the end of the
period.
Lye recaptured the lead for the Ephs when she netted her second
goal of the game at 1:05 into the third period. She was assisted by
Sam Tarnasky and Page. Williams held on to the lead up until the
final minute of the game when the Mules came back to score two
goals and win the game. The first goal, scored by Marissa Mullane
and assisted by Comeau and Julian, came at 19:03. Comeau, assisted
by Laura Anning, netted the game winner with just fifteen seconds
remaining, for a final score of 4-3.
The Ephs return home for a NESCAC match-up against Middlebury on
Wednesday at 7:00pm.
