Ephs lose to St. Anselm 5-0

MANCHESTER, NH – The Williams women’s ice hockey
team dropped to 1-7-0 with a 5-0 loss to St. Anselm College (9-0-0)
this afternoon.
Bianca DeSantis, assisted by Arianna Rigano, scored first for the
Hawks at 8:43 into the first period. At the end of the period, with
Williams outshot by St. Anselm 9-3, the Hawks’ 1-0 lead
remained intact.
Following a scoreless second period, St. Anselm came out strong in
the third, scoring 4 goals within the first 5 minutes of play.
Kathleen Twomey scored the first goal of the period at 0:26.
Samantha Rowe and Daniella Lyons collected assists on the play.
Shortly thereafter, Bianca DeSantis, unassisted, found the back of
the net to bring the score to 3-0. Thirty seconds later, Alexa
Hingston netted an assist from Daniella Lyons. Then at the 4:01
mark, St. Anselm’s Arianna Rigano scored a short-handed goal
to put the Hawks ahead 5-0.
Overall, the Ephs were outshot by the Hawks 26-11. Senior
goaltender Denise McCulloch made 15 saves in the loss. Sophomore
Betsy Laurin entered the game at 4:01 in the third period and
picked up 6 saves.
The Ephs return home for a NESCAC match-up against Colby College on
Friday, January 11th at 7:00 pm.
